A practical 90-day countdown to a successful BRCGS Food Safety Issue 9 audit, from gap analysis to opening meeting.

Day 90 to 60: gap analysis

Run a structured gap analysis against the BRCGS Food Safety Issue 9 standard. Score every clause as Conformant, Minor, Major or Critical. Build a corrective action plan with named owners and deadlines.

Day 60 to 30: close the gaps

Focus first on Fundamental requirements — failure here means automatic non-certification. Senior management commitment, HACCP, internal audit, corrective action, traceability, layout/product flow and housekeeping all need to be solid.

Day 30 to 0: rehearse

Run a full mock audit including document review, site tour and traceability test. Brief every department lead on the questions they will be asked.
